KILKENNY will take on Limerick in the All-Ireland hurling quarter-finals.
The Cats came out of the hat against John Allen’s side following this morning’s draw.
This will be the third time that Brian Cody has led Kilkenny into a championship match against the Treaty County. Form is on Kilkenny’s side, as they have won both games since the James Stephens man took over as manager in 1999.
The first meeting was in the 2005 All-Ireland semi-final, when Kilkenny won by 0-18 to 0-13. The most recent championship game between the sides was the 2007 All-Ireland final, which Kilkenny won by 2-19 to 1-15.
In the other quarter-final Waterford, who lost the Munster final to Tipperary on Sunday, were drawn against Cork. Venues for the quarter-finals, which will be played on the weekend of July 28/29, will be announced later today.
Kilkenny’s hopes were boosted by the return to action of Michael Fennelly and J.J. Delaney over the weekend. Both played with their clubs in the fourth round of the senior hurling league, Delaney featuring at centre-back for Fenians, while Fennelly was a second half substitute for Ballyhale Shamrocks.
