THE final open fourball competition of the season was held at Gowran Park GC over the weekend.
After a delayed start due to frost, all competitors were accommodated with a two tee start at 10am. Competition was hot, with locals Pat Kirwan and Lee Graham shooting 45 points to take first place. Second and third places went to P. Joyce (Mountain View) & J. O’Mahony (Killerig) and M O’Brien (Killerig) and M. Phelan (Gowran Park) with 43 points respectively. A countback on the last six holes decided the placings.
AUTUMN - A great score of 43 points saw Owen Devlin (Ballymoney) march to victory in the latest round of the Autumn Qualifier. Playing off 8 Devlin secured the lead qualifying spot, while local duo Michael Pitt (40pts) and Michael Bolger (37pts) took the remaining qualifying spots for the final, which will be held before Christmas.
The next round will be held tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday. Timesheet available from 056-7726699.
LADIES - The club’s ladies had a successful Invitation Afternoon on Friday. Competitors enjoyed a fun scramble competition where golfing newcomers were introduced to the game by existing club members.
Resident golf instructor Dominic Bolger was on hand to offer advice and instruction for the beginners. Invitational ended with warm hospitality in the clubhouse bar.
