Kilkenny army museum will open its doors to locals on St. Patrick's Day

Local army personnel have a big part to play in the St Patricks Day celebrations in Kilkenny on Thursday.

Their new mascot Fionn the Irish Wolfhound is grand marshal for the Kilkenny parade this year.

Meanwhile for locals with an interest in Irish military history the museum at James Stephens Barracks is open to the public this St Patricks Day.

Memorabilia from Kilkenny’s military and heritage past, with a focus on 1916 and the revolutionary period can be viewed between 11am and 4pm for free this Thursday.
