Kilkenny County Council is due to hold a special meeting this Saturday to consider a proposal to nominate Senator David Norris to stand as a presidential candidate.
The senator received a nomination from Fingal County Council this week, and Kilkenny could be the second local authority to nominate the candidate.
The deadline for presidential nominations is September 28.
Kilkenny County Council’s special meeting was proposed by Cllr Malcolm Noonan (Greens). “I believe every candidate should have an opportunity to run. It is up to the electorate to be the arbiter of the merits of each candidate,” he said.
