Gowran Little Theatre members are getting ready to tread the boards with their second production and new play, “It’s The Real McCoy”.

Chairperson of the group, Judith McCormack is excited and apprehensive about staging, “The real McCoy” and explains why they picked it. “We were reading scripts on and off for a few months and debating what to do to equal or better what we did last time out. A few of us had seen this play and it seemed a perfect fit for our cast but it wasn’t yet published. So, I had a sneaky little chat with the writer and, after much discussions, he kindly agreed to let us put it on.

It’s the Real McCoy” by Tommy Marren has been touring the country for the past year, playing to packed houses and receiving rave reviews. Now Gowran Little Theatre will put its own spin on things.

Set over two days in early summer of 1964, the play tells the story of Madge Molloy, in her mid-60s, who has lived the last 43 years of her life wondering why her husband Tom walked out on her after just four months of marriage.

Throw in an unexpected homecoming, a confused curate, a gormless postman, a pair of nosy neighbours and a loaded shotgun and you have the recipe for what promises to be a wonderful night’s entertainment. The show runs from Friday, October 18 to Sunday, October 20 in Gowran Parish Hall at 8pm. Tickets are only €8 each but seating is limited so booking is essential. Booking 0871331130.
