The Savage Jim Breen only formed in 2012, but its members have been playing together for years and their songs tell something of their experience of life today- presented as a rare blend of original music that is infused with uplifting harmony.
The three members of the band are Jimmy Haughey, Greg Breen and Kilkenny native James Savage.
“The band’s influences are very eclectic as anyone who has heard us would agree. For us it started with bands like The Velvet Underground, The Beatles, Neil Young, now we love to listen to Bonny Prince Billy, King Creosote and Seamus Fogarty.
Asked to describe their style, James answers that “The Savage Jim Breen” are an Irish alt-folk band made up of three seasoned and diverse song-writers. Their music tells a story of a 21st century Ireland; a place heavy with the modern burden yet somehow lifted by a sense of optimism and the ever there”.
On the first weekend in September they will take to the Global Green stage at Electric Picnic, which is held in the grounds and woodlands surrounding Stradbally Hall.
“We are really looking forward to playing on the Global Green Stage, it is a colourful and engaging area, which brings together a wide community of cultural creative, activists, artists, musicians, foodies, and social entrepreneurs. We are really excited about playing our music in this amazing setting,” said James.
They also play Billy Byrnes on the August 28.
