Our Niamh seeking to win Miss Ireland pageant crown

A Johnstown woman will represent Kilkenny this weekend in the finals of the Miss Ireland competition, taking place in Ballsbridge on Saturday.
Niamh Dermody, from the Rathdowney Road, Johnstown, is 19 yrs of age and a student in Athlone IT, where she studies Social and Media Marketing. Her interests are swimming and gym, and she is an avid follower of the Fenians and Kilkenny.
Her cousin Stephen Grehan and her grand-uncle Alfie Hicky both wore the Black and Amber for the Cats over the years.
She will be sponsored by the Wheel Inn, who are delighted to support her, particularly because of her family ties to the Attanagh/ Ballyouskill area. Her late grand-uncle, Nicky O’ Toole, was a regular in the Wheel and only passed to his reward recently.
Niamh is one of the 30 finalists who will battle it out for the national beauty crown this Saturday, July 20. The pageant will also be the subject of a behind-the-scenes documentary, which will film on the night and air in the coming weeks.
Winners of the contest go on to represent Ireland at the Miss World pageant. Entrants for Miss Ireland must be aged between 17 and 24 years.
