Celebrating culture, heritage and everything that makes us Irish is the theme of the new single from The Kilkennys, released today.
Aptly named ‘The Gathering’, the song was written by the band while on tour in Denmark in October 2012 in a bid to promote Ireland to the many thousands of people they perform to all over the world.
From the glamour and glitz of Las Vegas to the arenas of Balve in Germany, the theatres in Denmark and the Irish music halls in Holland and everywhere in between, The Kilkennys want to promote a little more than just Irish music. It’s the year of The Gathering and The Kilkennys want to make sure it’s one hell of a party. This song is an open invitation to people of Irish descent far and wide around the world to come celebrate our Irishness. With fine musicianship and lyrics that celebrate Irish heritage, ‘The Gathering’ is a song that will stick in your head, bring back memories of home for many and revitalise a sense of pride for many more. The Kilkennys have been on the road for the last 15 years and are regular performers at Irish festivals all over the world and have built up a large following in Germany, Holland and Scandinavia in recent years.
Their online presence is huge with over 12,000 fans on Facebook and almost half a million YouTube hits. The new single was released today and the band are hopeful that it will be a success due to their large online following. A music video shot in St Canice’s Cathedral over Christmas will also be released to promote the song. See it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS9gdMK5hlw.
The Kilkennys are: Davey Cashin (mandolin, banjo, guitar and vocals); Robbie Campion (guitar, banjo and vocals), Davey Long (drums, percussion, bodhran and vocals) and Tommy Mackey (bass, guitar and vocals). ‘The Gathering’ is available to download from iTunes on Friday.
